What We Believe…
This collection of foundational beliefs guides and directs what we do as a church. While comprehensive, it may not cover every question you have. If you'd like more information or have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to our leadership team! We're here to help!

We believe in one God eternally existing as one essence and three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, each of whom is fully God, yet there is one God. (Matt. 28:18-20, 1 Corinthians 8:6, John 14:26, 2 Corinthians 13:14)
Jesus Christ is the one and only begotten Son of God, fully divine, who lived a perfect life, died for our sins, arose from the dead, and is reigning at God’s right hand until His future return and Judgment. (John 3:16-17, Romans 10:9-10, John 11:25, 1 Peter 1:3)
The Holy Spirit is given to every follower of Christ to live in and empower their daily walk by bringing comfort, teaching, knowledge, courage, peace and help in time of need. (John 14:16,26; 16:7,13; 15:26, Acts 2:1-4, Galatians 5:22-23) Ephesians 3:14-19, Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 6:19

We believe that God is the creator and master designer over all of creation and has revealed himself to all of mankind through His creation so that all will know of His presence. (Genesis 1:1-31, Romans 1:20, Psalm 33:6, Hebrews 11:3)
Every person has worth as a creation of God, set apart from the rest of the created things by being made in the Image of God. However, through the temptation of Satan, humanity transgressed the command of God and fell from their original holiness and righteousness. That sin has fractured all things, leaving the world in desperate need of salvation. Thus, all humanity now stands in opposition to God in need of forgiveness. (Genesis 1:26-27, 2 Peter 3:9, Romans 3:23; 5:10-21, Romans 3:9-20, Ephesians 2:1-3)
We believe that the Bible is the inspired and inerrant Word of God and is the final authority on all matters of faith and practice. We believe the Scriptures, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God and are therefore without error in their original writings. This is God’s revelation to mankind, making himself known (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 15:4, Psalm 119:105, 19:7-11, Isaiah 40:6-8)

We believe that salvation can only be found through Jesus and is available to all who accept Him as Lord and Savior. (John 14:16, John 3:16-17, Acts 4:12, Matthew 7:13-14)
The Bible has revealed the way to accept Christ as Lord and Savior: repentance from sin; confession of one’s personal faith in Jesus as the Christ, the Son of the Living God; and water baptism by immersion for forgiveness of sins and the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:18-20, Romans 6:4, Acts 16:30-34)

We believe that the Church is the body of Christ on earth and exists to save the lost and to nurture the saved. The Church is called to make disciples through worship, prayer, teaching of the Word, fellowship, the exercise of our gifts and talents, and the proclamation of the gospel both in our community and throughout the world. (Matthew 28:18-20, 1 Corinthians 12:12-31)

The timing and details of Christ’s return have been studied and debated throughout church history. Here, we offer a simple summary of the hope we hold in anticipation of Christ’s return.
Timing
We believe that Jesus will physically, visibly, and gloriously return this world one day in the future. Scripture indicates that while we do not know the timing of Jesus’ return, we are to always be ready and looking for His return. (2 Peter 3:1-13, Revelation 16:15, Matthew 24:43, 1 Thessalonians 5:2-4)
Final Judgement
At Jesus’ return, the dead will be resurrected and those who are alive in Christ will be glorified to live and reign forever with God in a new heaven and earth forever serving Him and giving Him unending praise and glory. Satan, and all those outside of Christ, will be finally and eternally separated from the presence of God enduring eternal punishment. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; 5:2-4, Revelation 21:1-5, Revelation 20:7-15)
Distinctives of Fairfield Church of Christ
While many of the beliefs mentioned above are widely accepted by the broader Christian community, there are certain distinctives that we hold at Fairfield Church of Christ that set our fellowship apart. These beliefs, rooted in the Church of Christ and the Restoration Movement, may differ from those of other churches in practice or interpretation. If you have any questions or would like to learn more, please feel free to reach out to our leadership team. We’re here to help!

At the Fairfield Church of Christ we observe the Lord’s Supper each week during our gatherings. From what we observe in scripture this was a normative practice in the early church and one we seek to maintain. The Lord’s Supper is to be observed by those who have become baptized followers of Christ. The Lord’s Supper symbolizes the breaking of Christ’s body and the shedding of His blood on our behalf and is to be observed repeatedly throughout the Christian life as a sign of continued participation in the atoning benefits of Christ’s death. As we partake with an attitude of faith and self-examination, we remember and proclaim the death of Christ, receive spiritual nourishment for our souls and signify our unity with other members of Christ’s body. (Matthew 26:26-28, 1 Corinthians 10:16; 11:24-26, Acts 2:42)
We also offer the Lord’s Supper during our children’s services on Sunday morning for those who are baptized followers of Jesus. We seek to educate and prepare our children for what they will experience as they grow in the church. While we believe participation in the Lord’s Supper is for each individual to determine, we also understand that children may not fully grasp some of the ideas being presented. If as a parent you would prefer that the Lord’s Supper not be offered to your child you can reach out to patrick@werfcc.com or stop by the check in desk on Sunday morning to notify our children’s ministry staff!

The precedent we find in the New Testament is baptism following conversion by full immersion into water. Baptism by immersion is meant to symbolically depict the believer’s real union to Christ in His death and resurrection (Acts, 2:38, Acts 22:16, 1 Peter 3:21, Rom. 6:1-14).

As the Body of Christ we believe that Jesus is the Head overall all the Church. Our church is independently governed and led by a rotating group of elders, men who are selected by congregation. They are responsible for shepherding and caring for the spiritual well-being of the church members, offering counsel, prayer, and support as needed. Through their wisdom, discernment, and commitment to God's Word, the elders work collaboratively with the ministerial staff and church leadership to ensure that the church fulfills its mission and remains faithful to its biblical values. (1 Peter 5:1-5, 1 Timothy 3:1-16, Acts 14:23, 1 Timothy 5:17, Acts 20:28)

The mission of the church is not solely for the ministerial staff, but for all who claim Jesus as their Lord and Savior. While there is no scriptural precedent for formal church membership, in the history of Fairfield Church of Christ, and other churches, by-laws have been created to better administrate and guard the church. Placing your membership with Fairfield Church of Christ demonstrates your commitment to the body of Christ that gathers in this location as well as allowing you to vote on matters important to the function of our church. Each member, with their varying gifts and abilities, helps to build and grow the Kingdom of God in their various locales. To become a member, you must be an immersed believer in Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:12,27, Romans 12:4-5)
